Leadership 101: The basics You need to know to be an awesome leader (Part 2)

Leadership is a skill that can be learnt. Anyone can become an extraordinary leader if they are willing to discover what makes effective leadership.

In the first half of this topic, we discussed two essential skills and virtues required for leadership distinction: communication, vision, and courage. I urge you to read that piece again to get the great ideas it conveys.

In the second half, we will take a look at five more skills that help form outstanding leaders.

Leadership skill number 4: Empathy.

The fourth trait of outstanding leadership is empathy. Leaders who understand and can relate to their team members’ feelings, emotions, and challenges build trust and create a positive work environment. You cannot effectively lead people you can’t relate with. You can’t lead a people who you seem disconnected from.

To be a great leader, you need to develop empathy and be able to put yourself in your team member’s shoes. This means listening to their concerns, understanding their perspectives, and providing support and guidance.

By developing your empathy, you will be able to create a more positive and productive work environment.

Leadership skill number 5: Accountability.

The fifth trait of great leadership is accountability. Leaders who hold themselves and their teams accountable for their actions are able to create a culture of responsibility and excellence.

To be a great leader, you must develop a strong sense of accountability and be willing to take responsibility for your actions and decisions. This means setting clear expectations, following through on commitments, and holding your team members accountable for their performance.  By developing your accountability, you will be able to create a culture of excellence and achieve better results.

Leadership skill number 6: Adaptability.

The sixth trait of outstanding leadership is adaptability. Leaders who can adapt to changing circumstances can navigate challenges and overcome obstacles.

To be a great leader, you need to develop your adaptability and be able to pivot when necessary. This means being able to adjust your plans, strategies, and goals in response to changing circumstances. By developing your adaptability, youcan lead your team through challenging times and achieve success.

Leadership skill number 7: Humility.

The seventh trait of outstanding leadership is humility—leaders who can admit their mistakes and learn from feedback create a culture of continuous improvement.

To be a great leader, you need to develop the virtue of humility and be willing to learn from your mistakes.  This means being open to feedback, admitting when you’re wrong, and being willing to grow and develop as a leader.

By developing your humility, you can create a culture of continuous improvement and achieve greater success. By embodying these traits of great leadership, you can become a powerful force for change in your own life and the world around you.

Leadership skill number 8 – Emotional Intelligence.

Emotional intelligence is a crucial asset for leadership excellence and effectiveness. With this skill, a leader can understand and manage both their emotions andthe emotions of others. This unique trait will help them build trust, resolve conflicts, and create positive work environments.

Remember, being a great leader is not about being perfect but about being willing to learn, grow, and inspire others to achieve their best selves.
